When we see this statement written in newspapers or flashed on TV, what do we think? Is it a good thing that it is that time of year or is it a bad thing that it is that time of year? For the retailers it is a good thing, lots of money will be made. For the families it could be a bad thing because they will be spending lots of money for toys and other items to give to their loved ones. For us this time of year draws our attention more than ever on the REASON FOR THE SEASON, our Lord Jesus and His Birth. We could get caught up in the superficial hype for the season or we can be drawn closer to the Lord Jesus during this time. We choose to look to the true reason that we celebrate during the Christmas season. That is why the word Christ is in Christmas. Some stores choose to leave out the word Christmas in their advertising and some choose to keep things as they always have been. All our lives we have enjoyed Christmas and the joy of giving. As children we enjoyed receiving the gifts and now as parents we enjoy the joy of giving to our children and grandchildren. The light in those beautiful eyes as they open packages and play with the items received is such a blessing. We take the time to remind those we love that Jesus was born those many years ago. He is the greatest gift that we can ever receive. This Christmas as so many in our world try to remove any vestige of Christ, let’s choose to worship the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Let’s choose to walk each day focusing on our Lord Jesus. Make the choice to be a child of the King and remember His birth, death and resurrection every day. Let us celebrate Jesus this Christmas!
Luke 2:1-14
“And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
